The method behind the madness!
Feel free to email the Commish with any suggested rule changes or modifications and I will present them to the league advisory board. You will not receive notification of acceptance or rejection of any proposals, therefore assume all have been rejected in a prompt and courteous manner. In the extremely rare case that I receive a suggestion with merit, you will receive neither credit nor reward for your efforts. Take solace in the fact that you have contributed to the betterment of the league. All ideas become the intellectual property of Commish, Inc.
Each week you will submit your picks for that week's professional football contests. We pick straight-up without the point spread. The spread is provided strictly for informational purposes and to help those in the league that cannot distinguish between a St. Louis Ram and the St. Louis Arch.
You will also submit your guess for the total points of each Monday night game. This number represents what you think the total points of both teams combined
will be. For example, Dallas loses to New Orleans 76-3; total points = 79.
The overall winner will be determined by the highest number of correct picks for all of the games throughout the season.
Tiebreakers will be used in several situations:
- We determine a weekly winner every week. This person is determined by the highest total of "wins" for that week. If two or more people are tied with the highest number of wins, the total points of the Monday night game will be used to break the tie. The winner is the closest to the actual total points regardless of being above or below the number. If a situation occurs where two people are the same number of points away from the actual, the lower of the two will win. For example, during week 1, Bobby and Erin have 12 wins each and have chosen 58 and 46 total points respectively. If the Monday night game ends with 52 total points, we crown Erin the winner because although each are 6 points away from the actual, Erin guessed the lower number.
- Weekly wins are mainly for bragging rights, but they do come into play when determining the standings and they also serve as the first tiebreaker for the overall championship. At the end of the season, the champion is crowned by the highest number of correct picks. However, if two or more are tied with the same number of correct picks, the person with the most weekly wins will win the tiebreaker.
- If two or more are tied with the same number of correct picks and the same number of weekly wins, we will use overall total points to determine the winner. In this case, all of the actual total points of every Monday night game, to include the Super Bowl, will be added together and compared to the sum of the player's guesses throughout the season. Closest to the number wins.
- The entire playoffs will be counted as one "week".
- If you fail to submit picks for the week for whatever weak and pathetic reason, you will be given all home teams for that week. This allows people who somehow forget their picks to keep playing for the season without too harsh of a penalty.
